When the Moment Captures Us – A Portal to Something Greater

We’ve all heard the phrase “Seize the moment!” It sounds so wise, so present, so profound. As if, by grabbing hold of a fleeting now, we could anchor magic and preserve it in time.

But wait a second.

Isn’t it a little ironic to try to capture something that, by definition, is fleeting? We believe we are being present—but in the very act of chasing the moment, we distance ourselves from the experience itself.

This paradox hit me like a lightning bolt.

I realized that it wasn’t me capturing the moment. It was the moment capturing me. And in that shift—in that experience—I stepped through a portal.

Capturing the Moment – A 3D Structure

To capture a moment suggests that we are separate from it. There is us, and there is the moment. We reach for it, try to hold on, freeze it in time. It is an active process—we seek the perfect light, the perfect composition, the perfect expression. We are the ones in control, framing, selecting, deciding.

It’s beautiful, but it also holds a limitation. Because in that effort, there is a subtle resistance—a desire to control something that was never meant to be controlled.

Being Captured by the Moment – A 5D Experience

To be captured by the moment is something entirely different. Here, the separation dissolves. You are no longer the photographer and the moment something to be caught—you become one with it.

The moment finds you, rather than you chasing it. You move through reality, and suddenly—there it is. It’s as if something whispers: “Now.”

This is the portal. The shift from holding to being held.

The Portal – Where Time Unfolds

When we stop trying to capture, we step into a different flow. Time behaves differently. We no longer feel the need to create magic—we step into it. The moment has already been waiting for us, and we walk straight into its heart.

That’s why certain images feel alive, as if they vibrate. They carry the energy of a moment that wasn’t just documented—it was shared.

This is exactly what I experienced the day I photographed Natalie and Maurits. I was drawn to the light in the forest, something inside me knew there is a moment here. But it wasn’t me capturing it—it was the moment that captured us.

Just as I pressed the shutter, snow fell from the tree above. I barely managed to take the shot, and in that very second, Maurits stuck out his tongue. No one could have planned it. No one could have directed it.

The Moment That Found Us

A second later, as the snow settled, I took the next image. The moment had shifted—from something sudden and unexpected to something soft and present. It was as if it was still pulsing, as if it continued to live through the light and movement.

And within that sequence lies the entire portal: first the event, then the echo. Not as something I directed or took, but as something I was invited into.

The Echo of the Moment

How We Live and Create Through This Portal

This isn’t just about photography. It’s about everything. Our meetings, our creations, our decisions.

  • When we capture life, we try to control it.
  • When we are captured by life, we open ourselves to being met by what is already on its way to us.

When we walk through this portal, we begin to live differently. We listen instead of chase. We follow instead of force. We allow ourselves to be found by what we once thought we had to struggle to catch.

Inviting the Magic of the Moment – In Image and Energy

This is exactly what I invite through my photography sessions and energy work. Whether through a camera or a healing session, it’s about opening the door to the greater field—where we no longer force magic but allow it to find us.

In photography, this happens when we step into a flow where light, movement, and presence lead the way. We let the images come to us, rather than creating them through effort.

In my energy work, it’s about dissolving resistance so that you can begin to feel the flow of what is already available to you. Walking through the portal means letting go of the need to hold on—and instead resting in what is already holding you.

✨ And in that movement, the real magic happens. ✨
